Dystopian Sky: Skirmish – A New Era with Updated Versioning

Exciting news for all Dystopian Sky: Skirmish fans! As we continue to evolve the game and bring new updates to the table, we’re introducing a fresh versioning system that will help us track the progress of the game more clearly.

In the past, we used a more traditional numbering system with v3.7 as the latest release. However, with the release of our first public version, we’ve decided to adopt a new format that better aligns with the evolving nature of the game and its growing player base.

Introducing v2025.1.0

Our new versioning system is based on the year of release and follows this simple structure:

  • 2025: The year of release.

  • 1: Major version number, indicating a fresh start for the public release.

  • 0: Minor version, marking the first stable version of the game.

The new format helps signal the start of a new era for Dystopian Sky: Skirmish. v2025.1.0 marks our first public release of the game, moving from the development phase to a stable, fully playable version. It’s an exciting milestone for the game, and we can’t wait for everyone to experience the changes and new features!

Why the Change?

The shift to this new versioning system reflects our commitment to making the game easier to follow and more intuitive for players. By using a year-based approach, we provide clarity on when each version was released.

Looking Ahead

As we continue to update the game with new content, balance tweaks, and improvements, we’ll be using this versioning format to keep things clear. Stay tuned for future updates, and thank you for supporting Dystopian Sky: Skirmish!

Version 2025.1.0 Release Notes:

Ambush Replaces Sneak Attack

Sneak Attack has been replaced with Ambush, making Cover more valuable and introducing Stun as a key effect to prevent reactions from targets.

Push Mechanic Rework

The Push mechanic is now automatic, with units resisting by rolling against their Resistance. If they fail, they are pushed by half the attacker’s Brawn.

Resistance System Created

The introduction of the Resistance system means all units now have a base Resistance calculated from Agility x 2 + Focus, affecting all Status Effects, including Push. Backgrounds modify Resistances for additional depth.

Weapon Power Adjustment & Upgrade System

Weapons have been made weaker, but can now be upgraded by paying their current value to increase damage output, tech level, and value. This provides more customization and allows players to enhance weapons over time.

Weapon Rebalance & New Upgrade System

Weapons have been rebalanced, making higher-tech weapons closer in value and easier to obtain. The weapon upgrade system allows for added customization and strategic planning in gameplay.

Growth & Equipment Section Created

A new Growth & Equipment section organizes Backgrounds, Skills, Trauma, and The Armory, making it easier to find and reference key information.

Status Effects Clarified

The mechanics of Bleed, Poison, Burn, and Staggered have been clarified for easier tracking and application during gameplay.

Line of Sight & Cover Rules Updated

Partial Cover grants +1 Agility, Full Cover grants +2 Agility, and High Ground grants +2 Focus, improving tactical decisions based on positioning.

Salvage Mode Replaces Capture the Flag

Salvage Mode now replaces the old Capture the Flag, focusing on loot retrieval with strategic movement restrictions and XP rewards, enhancing the gameplay experience.

Contamination Mode Adjusted

Environmental hazards in Contamination Mode now activate starting from round two, adding more dynamic battlefield challenges as the game progresses.

Faction-Specific Name Generators Completely Reworked

Faction-specific name generators have been overhauled with new conventions, creating more immersive and thematic names for each faction.

Blue Imp Logo Updated

The Blue Imp logo has been replaced with a completely new design that better reflects the evolving theme and identity of Dystopian Sky: Skirmish.

Core Rulebook Reorganization & Redesign

The CORE rulebook has been redesigned for improved clarity, making it more visually appealing and easier for new players to navigate, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.
